2021 (DC) COURSE DESCRIPTIONS


4-Dimensional Firearm Training

There is shooting, and there is gunfighting; and they are not the same. PFC again breaks new ground and enhances survivability with this innovative new program, which utilizes UTM non-lethal training ammunition (NLTA) in a force-on-target setting. Students will first be taught the principles of live fire movement using their handgun or carbine weapon system in order to establish the critical skill-at-arms required for problem solving against live, dynamic threats. Further instruction features the five modules of PFC’s “Mover-Mover” series of drills, which seek to work the peripheral, adrenal and spatial muscles that simply get neglected during rote square range training. Dye Marking Cartridges (DMC) for too long have been under-utilized and only thought of for Force-on-Force training; 4-Dimensional Firearm Defense stands this paradigm on its head. This class will take your firearms training to another level.

Advanced Tactical Self Defense

This course will take a look at subject control principles and how to make them work for you. This course was developed for law enforcement officers and intended to provide them with the knowledge, ability and skills to defend themselves and others in everyday real life close quarter physical confrontations.
Specifically , we will educate officers on proven offensive and defensive techniques which can be used to combat physical resistance and gain physical control over combative and unarmed using a variety of tactical maneuvers, including pressure points, joint manipulation, and pain compliance techniques.
This training will focus on principles of using minimal force to obtain maximum control; scene and response strategy, using the reactionary gap to survive the encounter: while reinforcing the principle that one of the most effective weapons available to an officer in such a situation is their mindset, access to proven practical tactical defensive tactics, and the officer’s ability to deploy such tactics effectively and efficiently.
The training will include instruction on appropriate and applicable subject control using tactical and speed handcuffing, joint control and manipulation, subject restraint, dealing with totally uncooperative subjects, strikes and take down procedures.

All tools, manuals, and anything else that is necessary is supplied. Students should bring their own weapon systems to get familiar with their own configuration and modifications, plus this allows the time for a good thorough cleaning and inspection. IN addition plus we can replace and repair any parts necessary. This is a very intensive course that we cover in 2-days, so be prepared to get a lot of hands on knowledge.

Edged Weapon Defense (Code 4 Concepts)

C4C Edged Weapons Defense is a principle-based class giving students specific strategies, tactics and techniques for prevailing in edged weapon encounters. Students will learn the I-CAT method for countering and defending against edged weapon attacks, transitioning to offense, and employing the best options available to end the confrontation. The C4C doctrine of incorporating personal weapons and defensive tools, empty-hand combatives skills, and various force options will also be taught to support responses for edged weapon attacks. Training will also include practical use of folding and fixed blade knives for close quarters defense, weapon retention, escaping from positions of disadvantage, using clothing against opponents, ground defense applications and dominating attackers on the ground. All material taught in this course has been proven successful during real-world confrontations and will help prepare students to defend themselves during dynamic edged weapon scenarios.

Featured Debrief: Aurora Century 16 Debrief

On July 20, 2012, shortly after midnight a 25 year old male exited Theater 9 of the
Century 16 Theater in Aurora, Colorado through the emergency exit door. He went
to his car, donned tactical gear and a gasmask, and armed himself with a shotgun,
rifle, pistol, and tear gas. He re-entered the theater through the emergency exit,
which he had propped open, tossed tear gas into the audience and began shooting
into the crowd. In less than 5 minutes, he shot or otherwise wounded 70 innocent
people, killing 12 of them. He was apprehended shortly after he again exited through
the emergency exit door. Many of the wounded that night were also carried out that
same exit door and triaged near where the shooter had parked his car. Over 25 of
these wounded were transported to area hospitals in police vehicles. Not only had
the shooter attacked the theater, but he also set a trap for first responders and/or his neighbors.

This presentation will cover some of the steps the shooter took to prepare for his
assault, some recordings of radio transmissions from the incident, and will recognize
some of the heroism of everyday people just out to enjoy a movie. It will also discuss
some of the issues related to rendering the apartment safe along with the aftermath
that affected, and still affects, the community and responders

Featured Debrief: Critical Mindset: The West Memphis, AK Incident

On May 20, 2010 four law enforcement officers were shot in West Memphis, Arkansas. Two of those, Officer Bill Evans and Sgt Brandon Paudert lost their lives on a traffic stop. Officer Evans and Sgt. Paudert were ambushed that morning by a father and son who were Sovereign Citizens. During the stop the father presented Officer Evans a “A1 Priority Notice” which is Sovereign Citizen jargon for the vehicle they are driving. The father was asked to step to the back of the white Doge mini-van that he was driving by Bill Evans. Sgt. Paudert arrived on scene and immediately upon Sgt. Paudert contacting the father the boy who was 16 years old exited the white dodge mini-van and shot Officer Evans and Sgt. Paudert multiple times with an AK-47. Chaos ensued after that moment as the communication barrier between the communication center and the road units went into disarray.

Sheriff Michael Neal who at the time was a game warden for the Arkansas Fish and Game responded to the West Memphis area to assist in the man hunt of the two cop killers.

Sheriff Neal hadn’t been in West Memphis for no more than fifteen minutes when he found himself in a gun battle for his life. Sheriff Neal was driving past the Wal-Mart as dispatch was giving the call out of the suspects spotted in the parking lot in the van in row 12. Sheriff Neal immediately turned into the parking lot and observed Sheriff Dick Busby and Undersheriff W.A Wren contact the father and son cop killers.

Sheriff Neal watched as he drove through the parking lot as the Sheriff and Undersheriff were instantly shot by the father and son. Sheriff Neal knew he had to stop the threat and that’s when he rammed his Arkansas Fish and Game truck into the suspects white van. Sheriff Neal found himself in a 17 second gun battle with the 16-year-old boy. Sheriff Neal upon impact eliminated the father by firing his AR-15 through the windshield of his patrol vehicle. Sheriff Neal took 12 rounds of AK-47 through his windshield and delivered 28 rounds of .223 at the 16-year-old eliminating the threats.

Sheriff Michael Neal is the most decorated officer in the history of law enforcement in the state of Arkansas. Sheriff Neal was awarded the 2011 International Law Enforcement Officer of the year and the Congressional Medal of Valor. Sheriff Neal debriefs this incident and what went right and what went wrong for him that day. This debrief will get you ready to train for your fight the next 2 days.

Featured Debrief: The Untold Story of the Pulse Night Club Incident & Aftermath

The deadliest Terrorist Attack on United States soil since September 11, 2001 occurred June 12, 2016 at 2:02a.m. The Pulse night club is located in downtown Orlando, Florida. Pulse was an alternative lifestyle night club and on the morning of the attack it was Latin night so many of the victims were of Hispanic descent. It’s been discovered through investigation since the terrorist attack that prior to the Pulse attack the suspect Omar Mateen had went to Walt Disney World property and became less confident in his ability to carry out his intended killing spree because of the presence of uniformed law enforcement.

Mateen left Disney property and headed downtown to the club and bar area. Every club had a uniformed officer outside the door. Mateen arrived at Pulse and didn’t see a patrol vehicle or a deputy at the door so he parked his vehicle and made his move to attack. Once in the club Mateen began his shooting spree on the patrons of Pulse. Little did he know the law enforcement officer that was at the club was outside on the side of the business dealing with a separate incident when he began his attack. The off -duty officer immediately engaged Mateen from the parking
lot and Mateen returned fire at law enforcement. The off-duty officer began transmitting over the radio “Shot’s Fired at Club Pulse.” In a matter of seconds every law enforcement officer in the Orlando area was heading to Club Pulse to stop the active shooter. Within minutes multiple units had arrived from several different municipalities and were working on making entry into Club Pulse to stop Mateen from his killing spree.

Detective Raul Rivas who was a fifteen-year member of the Orlando SWAT team at the time of the Pulse incident had just arrived back home at 2:00am. Detective Rivas and the Orlando SWAT team had just dealt with back to back hostage situation call outs from the day before. Detective Rivas had just crawled into bed and closed his eyes when the call out for the Pulse Incident went out. Detective Rivas does a complete breakdown of the Pulse Incident from the time Mateen was looking for a target to the aftermath of the Pulse incident.

Detective Rivas who was assistant team leader for Orlando SWAT immediately responded to the incident that was unfolding at Club Pulse. Detective Rivas jumped into action with other SWAT team members as he explains in his debriefs how the dynamics of the incident changed very abruptly for him and all law enforcement on the scene. Detective Rivas breaks down the Club Pulse incident and how the chaotic scene was handled to the best of their ability.

Detective Rivas explains how the medical situation was handled and what went good for them that morning and worked against them in treating injured patrons of Pulse. Detective Rivas speaks about the unthinkable and quick decisions that the command staff of the Orlando Police Department had to make that morning at the snap of a finger. Rivas speaks about the shootout incident with Mateen three hours after the first shots were fired. What Detective Rivas talks about isn’t a book report or something that was told to him. Detective Rivas exchanged gunfire with the suspect that morning ending the terrorist attack and the killing. Detective Rivas discusses the PTSD effect that the incident brought upon law enforcement and the Orlando SWAT team.

That morning in Orlando one hundred and two people were injured in the Pulse incident. Unfortunately, forty-nine innocent people lost their lives from the Pulse event. Detective Rivas received multiple awards from the Club Pulse incident because of heroics including the award of Valor and State of Florida Special award.

Live Fire Carbine: Movement Under Fire

In the absence of cover, movement itself affords you protection. Maneuver warfare has proven time and again that movement performed under correct distance and timing often leads to victory. P.T.S.D. The Silent Sniper: The War Behind the Door

I always wondered as a young patrol deputy working the road 2001-2003 how someone could kill themselves. I wondered exactly how bad did life have to be to do an act like that? That was until Christmas night of 2008 when I foumd myself face to face with the devil playing a game of chess for my own life.

Post Trematic Stress Disorder was something never heard of years ago. In 2018 we lost more offiicers to suicide than we did in line of duty deaths. We lost 167 officers to suicide in 2018, and 148 officers in the line of duty. In 2019, suicide at tge rate it’s going we’re going to surpass 200 suicides in law enforcent and we could double the amount of in line of duty deaths.

Not only does law enforcement have a war waged on the streets in America, we have a war going in within. For yours the stigma in law enforcement was “suck it up and have a beer” or “nothing bothers you, you’re fine.” Law enforcement officers are afraid to speak about their mental health because they’re afraid that they will be labeled as being “weak” or be found “unfit for duty.”

We at N&F Training Solutions are taking the flag and leading the march to break this stigma in the law enforcement profession. We want public safety to know that “it’s ok, not to be ok” Chief Fitzwater shares his story of how PTSD led him to drinking to deal with his issues. Chief Fitzwater shares his story about living a double life at work and at home. In August of 2007 Fitzwater left a bar in his unmarked patrol vehicle and crashed his work car leading him to be arrested by his own department.

The arrest led to Fitzwater’s life spiraling out of control even more becoming divorced, loosing his home, vehicle, and daugher becoming homeless sleeping in a vehicle his mother gave him. Through Chief Fitzwater’s story he took one hit right after another battling everyday to make it to the next. Fitzwater explains how Christmas of 2008 was the darkest day in his life and how he was going to end his life that evening.

Chief Fitzwater’s story has a happy ending for him as he made it out of the darkness and was able to overcome his addiction, depression, and battle back to have a purpose in life again. Chief Fitzwater’s debrief has been called “life changing training”.

Reactionary Gap & Understanding the OODA Loop

No doubt about it, one of the key factors in surviving a close quarters physical confrontation with a subject – armed or unarmed – is engaging a safe and sound survival mindset and knowing how to establish and enforce the reactionary gap.

The reactionary gap is the distance an officer must keep between them and their subject for him or her to be able to respond effectively and efficiently to any sudden threat made against them while in proximity. The minimum distance can vary and is dependable upon several factors an officer must learn to identify and recognize. Success in close quarters combat situations also require an officer to know his or her danger zone and how to use it to attain tactical advantage. Lastly, officers facing such threats of personal violence and in such situations, must know how their reaction time – their ability to respond with force equal to or greater than the threat they're facing – will factor into the actions and response plan.

Setting A Survival Mindset will also discuss how understanding and implementing the four-point OODA Loop decision-making process (Observe, Orient, Decide and Act) will assist officers with efforts to make quick, proactive and effective live-saving personal decisions.

Yes, while speed and strength are important variables to an officer's ability to survive and walk away from a violent close quarters encounter, so too are his and her analytical skills and being able to successfully interpret what's really happening in real time.

STRUCTURE CLEARING STRATEGIES

This course will expose the end-user to proven methods for safely clearing structures while mitigating risk. Topics covered will include the structure traits and dynamics, door management, methods of entry, subject management, contingency preparations, action on contact. This block will focus on two man and team movement.

This course is an overview of basic clearing strategies and is not meant to supplant the full training course.

S.W.A.T. Team Leader Development Course

This class will discuss team leader survival, the tactical decision making process, discuss a SWAT officer evaluation tool and its uses, then conclude with a review of incident debriefs related to less lethal resolution options, barricade operations, warrant service and hostage rescue.

Tactical Team Combatives (Code 4 Concepts)

This class is designed around the use of sound principles and reality-based practices to address physically combative subjects encountered by tactical personnel. This training was developed for special operations units, SWAT teams, and other groups that must train for physical defense and subject control while in full kit and amongst team members. Individual and team-based defensive tactics are taught in all subject areas. Students will learn a principle-based approach for contacting, controlling and dominating adversaries and “unknowns” located during an operation, whether subjects are compliant or combative. Concepts taught in this course are consistent with other PFC/C4C curriculum so students familiar with lessons learned during PFC’s team tactics, indoor combat, or CQC instructional blocks will be reinforced and applied during this program. At the conclusion of this course, teams and individual operators will have a foundation for defeating and/or detaining anyone who poses a threat during a mission. Proper and responsible use-of-force, as well as weapons safety, are emphasized throughout training. All material taught in this class has been proven successful during real-world confrontations in all types of environments and will help prepare armed professionals to manage physical confrontations.

The Foundations of Modern Tactics

Modern tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) have their roots in the principles of conflict founded by the great military strategists through millennia. This seminar traces modern tactical decision making to its roots in the great strategists. At the end of the seminar participants will be able to better understand why modern-day tactics work, but how the context in which they were derived. This will prepare tacticians to better apply their TTP’s to given emergencies.
